Bio: Hello, my name is Angelique Shah and I’m a native New Yorker originally from the Bronx. I attended the HS of Fashion Industries in NYC and this gave me the foundation for creating beautiful clothing, home décor, and accessories.
After HS I joined the US Navy and served for 5 years as an Aviation Mechanic working on various aircrafts. I was honorably discharged and given a good conduct medal after serving during the Iran-Iraq War.
Currently I live in beautiful Shepherdsville, KY and sew my quilty goodies on an Elna sewing machine, and quilt on my Bernina Q20 long arm. Customers bring me their completed quilt tops and I sew everything together on the Q20. I can complete quilts with hand guided designs, or I can use the Q-Matic and complete it with Edge to Edge (E2E) designs.
I was honored to be the COLLIDER Artist-in-Residence for the month of March, 2024 at the Louisville Public Library. In addition, I was awarded the Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant for fiscal year 2024-2025 from the KY Arts Council.
I’ve had two of my works exhibited this year: “Sometimes I Dream of Frida” for the Reflections, an Exploration of Self and Identity at the Roberta Marks Gallery; small mini quilt. My second fiber art piece was a painting titled “LOVE”, this is included in the Mothering Me exhibition currently taking place at the Floyd County Carnegie Library Cultural Arts Center until Jan 4th, 2025.
My quilt collaborations with Sunshine Joseph Mallard are currently being exhibited at the National Quilt Museum called Sunshine Joe Mallard: Threading His Grandmother’s Needles. We also have a quilt displayed at the Frazier Museum called Let Freedom Ring, 2023.
Nothing makes me happier than to spread joy through the colorful tapestry of fiber arts, weaving together the shared history of quilting and other forms of fiber expression.
I hope to meet you soon so we can talk about all things quilty and fiber arts related!
